What is Parabens?
Parabens comes in many versions:
Methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, benzylparaben, isobutylparaben and propylparaben.
Parabens are used as a preservative in sunscreen, conditioner, shampoo, moisturizers and other skin care and cosmetic products. If you see one or more parabens, as the ones listed above, you should think twice before using the product. Denmark has all ready prohibited several types of parabens in cosmetics and skin care.
In Norway it is still permitted with all types of parabens, but researchers is starting to take notice and comment that these toxic substances are more harmful than first thought. Norway is one of the countries where there is found the most of different chemicals in the body.
Facts about parabens:
♦ Parabens can increase levels of estrogen by interfering with the enzyme in our skin that releases estrogen from the body.
♦ Parabens are absorbed in the body by the skin. It's been done many studies which show that those who regularly used creams with parabens had higher concentration of parabens in the body the older they were. Another study in Denmark found that concentrations of parabens in urine increased by applying a paraben-containing cream.
♦ There are several researchers who assume that parabens are one of the causes of breast cancer and damage to the fetus.
